Type a new word that differs by the allowed number of letters from the last word: 1 in Easy (4-letter), up to 2 in Medium (5-letter), or up to 3 in Hard (6-letter).

A word ladder is a classic puzzle invented by Lewis Carroll in 1877: transform a start word into a target word by changing one letter at a time, where every step must be a real word. Word Runs is that classic puzzle rebuilt as a race — the same daily ladder for everyone, three difficulty modes, and the first to reach the target wins. Word ladders have gone by many names over the years, including word chains, doublets (Carroll's original term), and laddergrams. Whatever you call them, the puzzle is the same: link two words with a chain of valid single-letter changes.
